(Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur). Type VIII (1870-1951). In 18K Gold, a white enamelled Maltese cross with good quality, old cut diamonds as ball finials, a green enamelled laurel and oak leaf wreath in each quadrant, the center medallion features a right facing profile of Marianne surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE 1870, the reverse medallion bears two crossed French flags, surrounded by a blue enamel ring HONNEUR ET PATRIE, the badge is surmounted by a green oak and laurel wreath suspension with a large old cut diamond on the suspension ring, marked with and eagle’s head on the elongated suspension loop denoting 18K Gold manufacture since 1838, measures 59.75mm (w) x 83.50mm (h – inclusive of diamond on suspension ring), weighs 48.7 grams (including ribbon), worn on a replacement neck ribbon, small enamel chip on reverse 12 o’clock arm, a decoration of top quality, in extremely fine condition.
