France, Third Republic. A French Army M1926 Adrian Helmet for Artillery Personnel

A very well-preserved French Model M1915 Adrian Helmet for artillery personnel, constructed of a non-ferrous metal alloy shell with an olive-drab painted exterior. The crown features a raised die-stamped magnetic metal comb secured in place with rivets fastened at the three, six, nine, and twelve o’clock positions. Fastened to the peak of the helmet is a zink insignia bearing raised canons topped by a flame, indicative of artillery personnel. The canons bear raised initials “RF” for République française (French Republic), and the insignia measures 50 mm in total diameter. The lower portion of the shell flares into an outward brim, with the edge rolled back and crimped into a smooth edge. Four sets of dual rivets are distributed even around the exterior, for the accommodation of the interior features. A narrow magnetic metal frame is set around the interior circumference, secured in place with the aforementioned exterior rivets. The frame holds in place a fully intact black leather liner, which bears six integrated flaps, each perforated with an eyelet through which is looped a period original drawstring. Emanating from the sides of the helmet are two magnetic metal loops which retain a period original chinstrap, itself constructed of black leather and adjusted with a single magnetic metal buckle. The helmet is fully unmarked and measures 220 mm (w) x 310 mm (h) x 150 mm (h). Minor issues consistent with age and field use are evident, including some scratching and loss of paint to the exterior, as well as material fatigue to the leather elements. A field-used example in overall better than very fine condition.
