Constructed of fine soft white cotton; with embroidered “Kreta” in golden-yellow threads; edged by two rows of yellow embroidery at the top and bottom; measuring 150 mm x 32 mm; uniform removed; in worn condition; award document for the “Kreta” Cuff Title awarded in the name of the Führer to Leutnant Franz Steigleder, on May 21, 1943, with a stamp and facsimile of the Generalfeldmarschall; dual hole-punched on the right side; measuring 147 mm x 210 mm; neat fold in the middle, small ink stain on the reverse - seeping through to obverse; very fine condition overall.
Footnote: Franz Steigleder served in the Zerstörgeschwader 26 (Destruction Squadron 26) from the outbreak of the war until 1941. He was transferred to the Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 (Night Hunter Squadron 1) later the same year. Steigleder was promoted from Hauptmann to Leutnant in 1942 and was wounded in action (WIA) on August 30, 1942 in an air fight in his Messerschmitt BF-101. Leutnant Franz Steigleder recovered from his injuries and returned to duty in late 1942, however, further records are missing.
