Germany, Heer. An EM/NCO’s Belt, Buckle & Dress Baynet Set
(Heer Bajonett mit Gürtel und Schnalle). A belt and dress bayonet set worn by a Heer EM/NCO, the former constructed of pressed blackened leather, one end stitched into a loop to accommodate an integral magnetic metal clip, the opposite end retaining a reverse brown leather tongue perforated with eight sets of dual eyelets for an adjustable fit, bearing an embossed maker’s mark of “C.W. MOTZ & CO., BRANDENBURG A. H.”, measuring 44 mm (w) x 1000 mm (l), demonstrating material fatigue consistent with age and wear, in very fine condition; retaining a matching buckle, constructed of magnetic metal, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, within a ribbed ring bearing an inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”) and oak leaf branches, the reverse with a loop and swivel attachment claws, unmarked, measuring 62 mm (w) x 48 mm (h), with oxidation evident throughout, in very fine condition; accompanied by a dress bayonet, measuring 350 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard, featuring a 200 mm-long polished magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and low edge, with a fuller running approximately two-thirds the length of each side, presenting fully unmarked, sitting securely within a one-piece nickel-plated alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and curved pommel featuring a hollow insertion slot, the latter retaining a functional push-button spring release, the handle grip composed of two piece of pebbled black bakelite secured together with dual magnetic metal rivets, accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a black-painted magnetic metal shaft, the throat retaining a functional spring catch firmly holding the bayonet in place during storage, the shaft with a downward-pointing hook emanating from the side, connecting to a period original black leather frog stitched into a loop for belt suspension, demonstrating issues consistent with age and wear, including running marks and oxidation of the blade, minor loss of nickel plating, oxidation and loss of finish to the scabbard, in very fine condition.
