In nickel, with separately attached stylized propeller in nickel, 63mm x 48mm, unmarked, in worn condition. Angolia calls this buckle “Unattributed, however it may be an early generic buckle for political flying elements or early (pre 1933 DLV). Some contemporary references attribute this to flying units of the SA/SS. The Assmann and Söhne catalogue, with probably date of 1937, illustrates this buckle as item # 21789/45mm”. Similar to buckle illustrated in Angolia’s book, page 222; a very rare buckle.
Footnote: From the collection of approximately 900 German buckles accumulated by John R. Angolia, who start collecting buckles, belts and brocades from 1944 until around 1990; most of the buckles were obtained from the American and German veterans; most of these buckles present a core of Angolia’s book “Belt Buckles & Brocades of the Third Reich”, published in 2001.
