Company of the Reserve Battalion 818 is awarded the Lappland Shield. Place and date is Bogstad (northwest Oslo, Norway), July 12th, 1945, signed by Major and Commander of the battalion Förster; The award was given out to soldiers having served in the Lappland region (northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland) for six months. It was officially proposed as an award in Feb 1945, but wasn’t implicated before the end of the war in May 1945. However, the British who controlled Norway after the Germans surrender allowed the German prisoners of war to wear badges. The Lappland Shield was therefore awarded after the end of the war, which explains the date on this certificate.
