A military ID book, 86x140mm, extremely fine condition with scuffing of the cover. It is dated to December 28, 1917.
Footnote: Johannes Wilhelm Heinrich Sellmann was born on December 16, 1899 in Nessendorf, district of Plön (northern Germany), where he became a mechanical engineering apprentice. He joined the army on June 20, 1917 and was deployed to Sapper Reserve Battalion No. 23. On December 30, 1917 a new assignment brought him into the 4th Field Sapper Recruit Depot in Jeumont, northern France, at the border to Belgium, where he would stay until April 22, 1918. The next day, Sellmann was redeployed to the 4th Company of Sapper Battalion No. 29 with which he saw action in the Battle of Montdidier-Noyon in late April. He also fought near Ricquebourg where he was lightly wounded on June 9, 1918.
