A Press Photo of AH & Field Marshal von Bock in Ukraine
Dated 1942; Measuring 17.9x13cm; A photo showing the Führer Adolf Hitler and Field Marshal Fedor von Bock walking up the stairs outside a building in Winniza (English: Vinnytsia), western Ukraine. The picture is dated to summer of 1942. Winniza was occupied by the Germans between 1941 and 1944. A few kilometers outside the city, the Nazis had built the Führerhauptquartier Werwolf (Führer Headquarters). It was the most easterly Führer Headquarter that Hitler stayed at. Fedor von Bock (1880–1945) was the commander of several army groups during the Second World War. In 1942 he lead the Army Group South. However, in Hitler’s opinion, von Bock was too slow in his approach on Stalingrad. Subsequently, Hitler split the Army Group South into two parts, and on July 13, he relieved von Bock of his duty, his last senior command position. Presumably, this picture was taken around these proceedings.
