Printed in navy blue ink on an off-white paper stock, obverse with an address panel marked "PRISONER OF WAR POST" in English, German, French and Japanese, marked "POSTAGE FREE" at the upper right in English, German and French, with four box options "U.S. / BRITISH / CANADIAN / OTHER (Specify)" to check off beside the heading "INDICATE NATIONALITY OF PRISONER OF WAR", tagged "VIA NEW YORK, N. Y." at the bottom, sender's address area on the adjacent panel, reverse inscribed "INSTRUCTIONS / MAIL TO EUROPE: WRITE VERY CLEARLY BETWEEN THE LINES OR TYPE OR PRINT IN BLOCK CAPITALS. / MAIL TO FAR EAST: LIMIT MAIL TO JAPAN TO 24 WORDS. TYPE OR BLOCK PRINT ONLY - DO NOT WRITE IN SCRIPT. / Remember that Legible Mail can be handled Faster" with a three panel area for letter writing below, plus an additional panel for letter writing on the obverse, insert tab inscribed "IMPORTANT: This form may be used in writing to United States and allied prisoners of war, civilian internees, and to American or allied military internees in neutral countries. For prisoners in German hands the prisoner of war number should be stated clearly, if known. It must not be confused with the Army serial number / W. D., P. M. G.
