The military service book of one Arthur Ernst Manig, part of the “Heer” (army). It is signed Aug 10th, 1937, in Torgau, east Germany. Manig was born July 8th, 1895, in Prösen, administrative district of Liebenwerda, administrative region of Merseburg. Under nationality it reads: German Reich. His occupation learnt is locksmith, he works as a lathe operator. His father’s name was Ernst, he died in 1932 and had been retired at that point. His mother’s name was Amalie, she died in 1907. Under “Musterung” (medical examination), it says that he is fit for service. This has been established in 1937 in Torgau as well as in 1943 in Großenhain. This is the only entry that is not from 1937. He is subject to the defence surveillance, which means that he has to keep in touch with his duty station and in the case of a war make himself available as a soldier. His service originally began on April 15th, 1915, as part of the infantry. His duty station was M.G.R. 341. Manig was awarded a medal, “f. R. II”. He was released from duty in Dec 1918 in Allenstein, the reason being the end of the war (“Kriegsende”).
