A Wehrpass & Records to the 847th Battalion - Georg Bauer Wehrpass and Health Record with statements and X-ray, 52 and 28 pages respectively, very fine  Georg Bauer was born on April 12th, 1893 in Hartheim in the region of Freiburg. He was married but with no note of children, and h trained to be a tailor at a Volksschule, though he worked as an assistant labourer. He made no note of his father, though he has his mother’s maiden name down as Bauer. She died in 1922. On the 5th of April, 1941, he was inspected at the Army Command Centre in Loerrach. His health record describes him as being blind in his right eye, but otherwise healthy. As such he was placed with the first Militia, which was common for German veterans of the First War. He was officially assigned to the 847th Battalion of Territorial Infantry in Forchheim by Bamberg in northern Bavaria in February of 1942. He then received training with the 98K Rifle. He lists his previous military experience from 1913 to 1918 during which time he achieved the rank of Gefreiter on the Western Front. He received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on February 28th, 1917. In 1937 he was part of a Pioneer Battalion. In September 1944 he earned the War Merit Cross in Silver. He was also the recipient of the SA Sports Badge.
