A Wehrpaß to Dr. Gebhard Seldmayr; German Cross in Silver Recipient

A Wehrpaß (army ID book) of veterinary Dr. Gebhard Seldmayr. It measures 105x147mm, better than very fine condition with extensive creases and wrinkles; Sedlmayr was born in 1886 in Haunshofen, district of Weilheim (Bavaria), today a part of Wielenbach. He was first recruited on October 1, 1911, into the 7th Bavarian Field Artillery Regiment. In August of 1914, he became the detachment veterinary of the 2nd Battalion of Artillery Regiment 11. During the course of the First War, he was switched to the 1st and eventually the 3rd Battalion, and became the regiment and detachment veterinary. After the war, Sedlmayr was redeployed in 1920 to serve with the Reiter-Regiment (Cavalry Regiment) 16. Between the mid 1920 and the late 1930s, he took part in several training exercises and seminars. From 1938 to 1940, he was the Korpsveterinär (corps veterinary) of the 3rd Army Corps. In February of 1940, he was made the Chief Veterinary Officer of the Higher Command z. b. V. (zur besonderen Verwendung = for special use) XXXVI. In May 1940, Sedlmayr joined the Armee-Oberkommando (Army Supreme Command) 9 as the army veterinarian. In January of 1942, he became the corps veterinary in the Staff of the General Command of the 2nd Army Corps, and in September of 1942, he joined the Staff of the Army Supreme Command 2. During the Second World War, he served in Poland, France, and Russia.On March 1, 1942, Sedlmayr reached his highest rank, Generalveterinär. He received the Bavarian Military Merit Badge 4th Class with Swords in 1915, as well as an Iron Cross 2nd Class. In 1918, the Iron Cross 1st Class followed. In 1936, he was awarded the Long Service Award 4th through 1st Class. 1940 saw the award of the Clasp to the Iron Cross 2nd Class, and in 1941 he received the War Merit Cross 2nd and 1st Class on the same day. Finally, on January 10, 1945, Sedlmayr was awarded the German Cross in Silver.
