An SS Soldbuch to the Leibstandarte SS “AH”
SS identification and service book Günther Turowsky, 10 x 14.5 cm. Date of item: 1941. An SS identification and service book for Schütze (private) Günther Turowsky (or similar), born Jan 24th, 1923, profession: toolmaker. He was originally stationed in Berlin with 2. Kompanie V./Leibstandarte SS “Adolf Hitler”. The Leibstandarte “Adolf Hitler” began as the Führer’s personal bodyguard and eventually grew into an elite division-sized unit. The cover shows an Imperial Eagle with wings spread, standing on an oak leaf wreath with a swastika inside. The book contains information about the private and his family, as well as delivery of materials to him, vaccinations, payments, and deployments. The page containing information about stays in military hospitals shows that he was moved from one hospital to the next between March and August of 1942, with stays in the Feldlazarett 158, Reserve-Lazarett Lnd, Reserve-Lazarett 115 in Berlin, and the Reserve-Kurlazarett B in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. His first deployment was to the Genesenden-Battaillon (convalescents battailon) in Feldbach near Graz (est. Jan 1943). He then served in the Kommandostab (Staff of Command) Reichsführer SS in Croatia, fighting partisans. His next deployment was again to a Genesenden-Battaillon, this time stationed in Wesserling. More hospital related dates show he must been have been wounded or sick and recovering in February, August, and December of 1943 and August of 1944. The inside of the foldable back cover contains a 1 Reichspfennig coin from 1943. (C:44)
