A mixed lot of three press photos presented to General Walter Fries, including two depicting Fries in uniform and shaking hands with AH, one printed on glossed Agfa-Brovira paper and one printed on unmarked matte paper, the reverse of each stamped with a Hoffmann press photo mark and bearing handwritten inscriptions indicating that the photos were taken on 7 March 1944 at a ceremony in which AH officially presented Fries with the Oak Leaves to his Knight’s Cross (awarded on 29 January), the glossed photo measuring 180 mm (w) x 131 mm (h) and the matte photo measuring 175 mm (w) x 125 mm (h), the former demonstrating minor wear, in overall near extremely fine condition, and; a photo depicting Fries shaking hands with AH on a separate occasion, painted on glossed Agfa-Brovira paper, the reverse stamped with a Hoffmann press photo mark and bearing a handwritten inscription indicating the the photo was taken in September 1944 at a ceremony in which AH presented Fries with the Swords to his Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves (awarded on 11 August), measuring 175 mm (w) x 126 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition; a postcard featuring a full-colour image of the famous panoramic window at the Berghof, the reverse bearing a handwritten inscription indicating that the postcard is a memento of Fries’ visit to the official resident of AH on 7 March 1944, measuring 150 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in extremely fine condition, and; a letter addressed to Fries from Konteradmiral Karl-Jesko von Puttkamer (Naval Adjutant to AH), featuring a typewritten inscription informing Fries that the photos from the 7 March 1944 ceremony are enclosed and that he can order more directly from Hoffmann’s press photo division, dated 19 March 1944 and issued at Führer Headquarters, closing with von Puttkamer’s handwritten signature, measuring 208 mm (w) x 295 mm (h), with some folding creases evident, in near extremely fine condition.
