Germany, Heer. A Private Wartime Photo Album, Eastern and Western Fronts

(Heer Fotoalbum). An interesting private wartime photo album from the estate of a Heer soldier who served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. It is constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux dark brown leather exterior. Four magnetic metal grommets are set into the spine through which is looped a drawstring, securely maintaining the structure of the album. The cover features a raised, silvered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, as well as an inscription of “KRIEGS-ERINNERUNGEN” (“WAR MEMORIES”). The interior content consists of 21 black paper stock pages, all separated by wax paper dividers, pasted with 196 black-and-white photographs. The photos depict Wehrmacht personnel on occupation duty in France, including images of wartime urban destruction. The owner then moves east in advance of Operation Barbarossa, with the final portion of the album depicting scenes of combat in the Soviet Union, including excellent shots of Stug assault guns and artillery. The album measures 315 mm (w) x 220 mm (h). With only minor material fatigue and no evidence of missing photos, it is in an overall extremely fine condition.
