(Verleihungsurkunde für Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). A rare award document for a Silver Grade Wound Badge to a soldier of the 373. (Kroatische) Infanterie-Division, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to Leutnant Alfred Riechelmann, Stab II., Artillerie-Regiment 373, issued on 17 July 1943 for three wounds suffered on 16 July 1943, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), with a central folding crease, in overall extremely fine condition.
Footnote: As part of the 373. (Kroatische) Infanterie-Division, Artillerie-Regiment 373 was formed in January 1943 with personnel harvested from the Croatian Home Guard, largely under the command of German officers and auxiliaries. The unit spent the duration of its existence fighting against the Yugoslav Partisans in Bosnia and Croatia proper, often suffering heavy losses, before surrendering on 10 May 1945. Notably, it was involved in Operation Rösselsprung; a failed 1944 attempt to kill or capture Partisan leader Josip Broz Tito.
