Germany, Luftwaffe. A Gold Grade Wound Badge, with Hero’s Death Certificate, to Obergefreiter Ernst Hein

A Gold Grade Wound Badge, constructed of gilded tombak, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “65” for Klein & Quenzer, Idar-Oberstein, measuring 37.14 mm (w) x 44.35 mm (h), weighing 30.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted white velvet medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), with some loss of finish and material fatigue evident to the badge and case, respectively, in very fine condition; accompanied by a Hero’s Death Certificate, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to Obergefreiter Ernst Hein, issued on 29 April 1943 following Hein’s death on 5 April, identifying Hein as a member of Kampfgeschwader z. b. V. “S”, featuring a handwritten signature of the Geschwaderkommodore, measuring 148 mm (w) x 210 mm (h), with minor creasing evident, in near extremely fine condition.
