Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pilot Observer's Badge in Gold & Diamonds Award Document
An extremely rare document finely fabricated from a thick white parchment, inscribed "VERLEIHUNGSURKUNDE / Für hervorragende Verdienste um die deutsche Luftwaffe / verleihe ich dem / das / FLUGZEUGFUHRER-UND-BEOBACHTER / ABZEICHEN IN GOLD MIT BRILLANTEN / hauptquartier, den / DER REICHSMINISTER DER LUFTFAHRT / UND OBERBEFEHISHABER DER LUFTWAFFE / Reichsmarschall", embossed with the Luftwaffe Eagle above and the Eagle with Crossed Batons insignia of the Reichsmarschall below, on a 496 mm x 332 mm sheet, printed at one end and folded in half (248 mm x 332 mm), curled. Document stitched in place in three locations at the spine of its leather hardbound presentation folder, the front cover of the folder trimmed in an ornate mesh design and thin rule on all four sides with the Eagle with Crossed Batons insignia of the Reichsmarschall in the centre, the folder measuring 255 mm x 342 mm, lightly soiled. Housed in a wooden-framed, light brown paper-covered case, white linen accents on the spine and edge trims, embossed Luftwaffe Eagle on the cover, thick parchment straps attached on the right side, each with 5.5 mm x 44.5 mm ivory pins, and when fed through the two sets of dual loop closures on the side, ensure a snug fit of the document housed inside in a recessed area, both sides of the leather cover of the folder having offset on the inside, leaving a ghosting of the ornate mesh design and thin rule, along with the Eagle with Crossed Batons insignia of the Reichsmarschall on the inside front cover, 270 mm x 360 mm x 33 mm, lightly soiled. Document and presentation folder, near mint; the case, very fine.
