Germany, Luftwaffe. A Private Wartime Photo Album
(Luftwaffe Fotoalbum). A private wartime photo album belonging to a Luftwaffe serviceman, constructed of a card stock binding with a faux dark brown leather exterior liner, the cover bearing a silvered inscription of “MEINE KRIEGSERINNERUNGEN” (“MY WAR MEMORIES”) and a Stahlhelm, the spine perforated with four holes reinforced with magnetic metal grommets through which is looped a drawstring which securely maintains the album’s structural integrity, the interior content consisting of 24 black card stock pages pasted with 104 black-and-white images of various sizes, depicting the daily life of Luftwaffe personnel through the eyes of a soldier who served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, including depictions of soldiers building or maintaining infrastructure, touring battle-scarred locales, training, and at leisure, supplemented by a small photo album containing a further eight photos, as well as seven postwar tourist postcards, with visible marks or captions, measuring 270 mm (w) x 90 mm (h), with some photos detached and evidence of a small number which have been lost, in near extremely fine condition.
