(Luftwaffe Fliegeraß Postkarte mit Unterschrift). A wartime signed postcard depicting Oberstleutnant Oskar-Heinrich “Heinz” Bär, in the uniform of an Oberleutnant and with the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves clearly visible, the lower half of the image overlaid by Bär’s handwritten signature in blue ink, the reverse bearing a Hoffmann studio mark and with the remnants of black card stock from previous album display, measuring 90 mm (w) x 140 mm (h), a superb memento of a noted fighter ace in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Flying over 1,000 combat missions in all European theatres of the Second World War, Heinz Bär was credited with 208 aerial victories (although he personally claimed 228), 16 of which were achieved with the Messerschmitt Me-262 jet fighter. Notably, and in contrast to many high-scoring Luftwaffe aces, most of Bär’s victories were achieved on the Western Front.
