Germany, RAD. A 1938 Reich Labour Service Mediterranean Tour Photo Album

(Reichsarbeitsdienst Fotoalbum). An interesting prewar Reich Labour Service (RAD) member’s photo album documenting a Mediterranean tour in 1938, constructed of a card stock binding, the cover bearing a RAD insignia above a unit dedication of “ARBEITSGAU VII SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN”, the interior featuring non-paginated card stock pages pasted with 51 black-and-white photos, opening with landscapes and cityscapes of Italian cities, some featuring sharp images of ruins and others depicting Blackshirts and members of Fascist youth organizations, later transitioning to scenes of RAD members on tour of Italian-occupied Libya with many images of Tripoli, concluding in Portugal with a small number of photos depicting Lisbon, also accompanied by 10 loose black-and-white images, the album demonstrating minor and age-appropriate material fatigue and discolouration, a fascinating look at prewar RAD service in near extremely fine condition.
