Germany, RAD. A Private Wartime Reich Labour Service Photo Album
(Reichsarbeitsdienst Fotoalbum). An extremely well-preserved private wartime Reich Labour Service (RAD) photo album, constructed of a card stock binding with a machine-woven floral exterior liner. Both the obverse and reverse of the spine are perforated with three holes, reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets, through which is looped a drawstring which securely fastens the album together. The interior contains 23 card stock pages with white paper stock dividers. It contains 88 black-and-white photographs overall. The first 15 photographs depicts landscape scenes and images of the owner in a RAD uniform, including a group shot with other RAD personnel. The remaining 73 photographs depict the owner in both RAD and Heer uniforms, often with other Wehrmacht personnel and civilians, on what appears to be the Eastern Front. It includes winter scenes and depictions of devastated towns and cities. The album contains no dates or captions, but features a mark on the interior of the reverse cover reading “RENATE-ALBUM”. It measures 330 mm (w) x 220 mm (h). Minor, age-appropriate material fatigue is evident, but the album is otherwise intact, with no photographs missing. It is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
