A fascinating mixed lot of private wartime photographs from the estate of a soldier who saw extensive service with the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich, including a studio portrait of a Hauptscharführer in a black Panzer wrap, with the Das Reich cuff title visible in razor-sharp detail, notably wearing an embroidered 1939 Iron Cross II Class in addition to other wards, printed on unmarked period paper, measuring 98 mm (w) x 140 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; a studio portrait of a Sturmmann wearing an overseas cap, the reverse in postcard format and bearing a handwritten inscription with a date of “5. 8. 1940”, measuring 90 mm (w) x 140 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; a group of seven photos printed on unmarked glossed period paper measuring 90 mm (w) x 65 mm (h), with scenes captured in France and on the Eastern Front, including several depictions of Waffen-SS personnel wearing camouflage field gear, Panther tanks, knocked-out Soviet armour, and colonial POWs, in overall extremely fine condition; an additional mixed group of 12 small photographs printed on period paper, some bearing reverse handwritten inscriptions, with scenes of German and Soviet armour on the Eastern Front (including double prints of a captured Soviet T-34 in Wehrmacht service at Kharkov in 1943), in overall extremely fine condition; large group shot of Waffen-SS NCOs and Enlisted personnel, wearing a variety of decorations and with individuals wearing both overseas and visor caps, including examples of crusher caps, the reverse bearing a handwritten inscription indicating that the photo was taken in Leerdam, the Netherlands, in December 1940, measuring 232 mm (w) x 155 mm (h), accompanied by two period reprints, printed on glossed paper measuring 178 mm (w) x 128 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; two group photos showing uniformed Waffen-SS NCOs and Enlisted personnel with a variety of decorations on display, including one individual who wears two Tank Destruction Badges, both printed on glossed Mimosa paper, one bearing a handwritten inscription indicating that the photos were taken in France in October 1942, both measuring 182 mm (w) x 110 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; one photo showing a memorial wall for fallen members of Das Reich, the reverse bearing a handwritten inscription of “22. JUNI 41 - MÄRZ 42”, measuring 176 mm (w) x 128 mm (h), printed on early postwar Agfa paper, in extremely fine condition, and; a Waffen-SS Western front commemorative postcard, the reverse bearing a handwritten inscription of with a date of “1940”, featuring a studio mark attributed to the Das Reich Division, measuring 115 mm (w) x 158 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
