Germany, SS. A Private Waffen-SS Wartime Photo Album
(Waffen-SS Fotoalbum). A Waffen-SS personnel private wartime photo album, constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a textured faux dark blue leather exterior lining. The exterior cover bears a silver embossed inscription of “KRIEGSERINNERUNGEN” (“WAR MEMORIES”) in Fraktur script. The album contains 20 black paper stock pages with 197 black-and-white photographs of Waffen-SS personnel training, at leisure, and in the field, with a date range of 1938 to 1941. The photographs depicts scenes on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. The pages are separated by translucent wax paper dividers with intricate spider web designs. The interior binding bears a manufacturer’s label reading “JOHS. SCHNEIDER, PAPIERHANDLUNG - BUCHBINDEREI, KARLSRUHE, KARLSTRAßE 26”. The album measures 330 mm (w) x 230 mm (h). There is evidence that some of the photographs have been lost or erroneously placed, and there is deterioration of the wax paper dividers, some of which have become fully separated from the binding. The album is in an overall better than very fine condition.
