Germany, SS. A Wartime SS Photo Album
(SS Fotoalbum). An extremely well-preserved SS photo album, constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux red and brown leather exterior liner. The spine features four blackened magnetic metal eyelets through which is looped a red, white, and black drawstring, securely maintaining the structural integrity of the album. The cover features silver embossed double Sig runes, as well as a decorative leather stitching motif. The interior content consists of 16 black card stock pages, including one integrated into the front and back cover pages, bearing 42 glossed black-and-white photos. Each page is separated by a wax paper divider with a classic spider web Included are a varied and diverse set of images, opening with a number of shots of a SS-Gruppenführer with Wehrmacht officers and at home. It also includes a number of depictions of Robert Heinrich Wagner, Gauleiter of Baden and Alsace and Head of Civil Government in occupied Alsace during the war years. He is depicted giving speeches and on review at NSDAP and Wehrmacht parades, including one where he is flanked by Erwin Rommel. It also features a single image of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. It concludes with a number of photos of Wehrmacht and SS Panzer and armoured personnel on the Eastern Front, including a shot of a destroyed Soviet T-34 with its captured crew being watched over by a Heer soldier. There is also an image of a Waffen-SS machine gun crew in camouflage uniforms. Notably, both the front and back of the inside cover are pasted with plain SS-Verfügungstruppe Sturmbann “N” cuff titles, each constructed of woven black rayon and trimmed with silver aluminum wire piping, as well as embroidered NSDAP and HJ insignia. The album measures 280 mm (w) x 195 mm (h). While no photos are missing, one page has been detached from the binding, and there is evidence that insignia previously pasted to the front and backer covers have been removed. It is in an overall extremely fine condition.
