Germany, Third Reich. A 1937 F.W. Assmann & Söhne Uniform Accessory and Insignia Catalogue
(Verkaufskatalog). A complete 1937 edition F.W. Assmann & Söhne uniform accessory and insignia salesman’s catalogue, constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a field-grey exterior liner. The cover bears a sketch of a uniformed Heer Officer examining a visor cap, above the Lüdenscheid-based company’s name and logo. Two metal rivets are stamped through the spine, securely maintaining the book’s structural integrity. The interior content consists of 89 paginated pages featuring black-and-white images of the extensive array of accessories and insignia produced by the firm, each accompanied by an inventory code. Included are buttons, belt buckles, cap insignia, insignia cyphers, and other accoutrements for the Wehrmacht, Sturmabteilung (SA), Schutzstaffel (SS), Police, and an array of civil organizations. Also secreted within the catalogue is a multi-page wax paper insert featuring a typewritten price list corresponding to the inventory codes. The interior of the cover features a label accommodating a catalogue number and owner information, which remains blank, suggesting that this is an unissued example. It measures 250 mm (w) x 325 mm (h). Significant conditions issues are evident, and includes the deterioration of most of the spine, with the rivets securing the book’s structural integrity, as well as consistent material fatigue throughout the binding and interior pages. This otherwise complete Assmann catalogue, of value as both a primary reference and as a collectible in its own right, is in a fair condition.
