(Propaganda-Plakat). A poster presenting Marshal Pétain, with the message Français! Vous n'êtes ni vendus, ni trahis, ni abandonnés. Venez à moi avec confiance (Frenchmen: you have not been sold, betrayed or abandoned. Come to me with confidence), the reverse presents a stamp in black ink from Stalag XC and the hand-written word FRANCISQUE in blue and red pencil crayon, measuring 39.7 cm (w) x 29 cm (h), presenting fraying along edges and several creases, and in overall good condition.
Footnote: According to notes on the frame, Second World War Veteran Reginald Pearce (R.C.A.) found the poster. The stamp on the reverse says Stalag XC indicating the poster came from the prisoner-of-war camp for enlisted men, located in Nienburg am Weser in Lower Saxony, under the name Stalag XC. The camp was a quarter of the size of the adjacent camp called Oflag XB and contained six accommodation blocks, a kitchen, infirmary, post office, supply and detention blocks. Initially, Stalag XC held only French soldiers, but later received Poles, Belgians, Romanians, Serbs, Italians, and Russians. The Nienburg camps were liberated by the British Army on 9 April 1945.
