A pair of private wartime photo albums, including a large example, constructed of a card stock binding with a canvas exterior liner, the spine perforated with four holes reinforced with magnetic metal grommets through which is looped a period original drawstring to maintain the album’s structural integrity, the interior content consisting of 22 black card stock pages separated by wax paper dividers to protect the images, pasted with 146 black-and-white photos depicting the wartime career of a Luftwaffe serviceman, with many images of personnel in the field, on drills, and sightseeing in German and indeterminate alpine locations, supplemented by a small number of non-military and postwar images, measuring 280 mm (w) x 195 mm (h), with material fatigue and the loss of some photos evident, in very fine condition, and; a small example, constructed of a card stock binding, the interior content consisting of 24 black card stock pages separated by wax paper dividers to protect the images, pasted with 99 black-and-white photos depicting the wartime career of a Heer soldier primarily on the Eastern Front through late 1944, with images of soldiers on occupation duty, drilling, at leisure, and interacting with locals, interspersed with two death card and several obituaries, measuring 160 mm (w) x 220 mm (h), with material fatigue evident which includes near-total deterioration of the spine but with no consequent detachment of pages, an interesting look at everyday life for German forces on the Eastern Front, in very fine condition.
