Germany, Wehrmacht. A Wartime Photo Album, with Western Campaign Imagery, from a Soldier of 3. Infanterie-Division
(3. Infanterie-Division Fotoalbum). A fascinating and extremely well-preserved private wartime photo album compiled by a soldier serving with 3. Infanterie-Division on the Western Front, constructed of a heavy card stock binding with a faux brown leather exterior liner featuring arabesque designs on the cover, in addition to a silvered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the spine perforated with four eyelets through which is looped a period original drawstring that maintains the album’s structure, the interior content consisting of 24 black card stock pages separated by wax paper dividers to protect the images, with the opening page featuring a detailed hand-drawn map of 3. Infanterie-Division’s advance through Belgium and northern France during the Western Campaign of spring and summer 1940, with the images consisting of black-and-white photos of various sizes, opening with scenes of Wehrmacht (Heer) personnel in Germany and crossing the border into Belgium and Luxembourg in May, with depictions of wartime devastation and personnel on the move, transitioning to France where the owner appears to be on occupation duty, with many scenic images of French cities and towns, concluding with photos of the owner’s leave in Germany and a victory parade in Frankfurt an der Oder, measuring 32 cm (w) x 22.5 cm (h), with all images featuring handwritten captions providing detailed descriptions of the accompanying scenes, demonstrating no notable condition issues or loss of photos, a superb look at a wartime serviceman on the Western Front of the Second World War in extremely fine condition.
