A German Post Office "Reichspost" XI Berlin Summer Olympic Games Stamps Sheet
Sheet contains eight cancelled stamps, entitled "Sonderbriefmarken derDeutschen Reichspost für die XI. Olympischen Spiele 1936 in Berlin", the heading overlaying the five interlocking rings of the Olympics insignia, the stamps with various denominations and featuring images of athletes performing on the uneven bars (gymnastics), diving, football (soccer), javelin throwing (track and field), torch relay, fencing, rowing and equestrian, each of the cancellations featuring the bell insignia of the Berlin Olympics, dated "28.7.36.-14" (July 28, 1936, the duration of the games), inscribed "BERLIN OLYMPIA-STADION" above and "XI.Olympiade 1936" below, the inscriptions separated by swastikas on either side, the Third Reich's eagle's insignia below, marked "Preis 2 RM" (Price 2 Reichsmark) at the lower right, printed in red, black and beige-green inks on an off-white paper stock, 195 mm x 285 mm, the four outside edges having been trimmed back from its original size of 210 mm x 296 mm, central horizontal fold mark, lightly creased, ghosting, very fine.
