Germany, Heer. A Pre-Second World War German Army Photo Album
(Heer Fotoalbum). This is an extremely well-preserved pre-Second World War photo album belonging to a member of the 4th Battery of the 31st Artillery Regiment (4. Batterie Artillerie Regiment 31), consisting of 31 card stock pages bearing a variety of illustrations and black-and-white photographs. The first page features a green ink, Fraktur text inscription of “Erinnerung an meine Wehrdienstzeit” (“In Commemoration of my Military Service Time”). The next five pages feature reproduced photographs of the Führer, Werner von Blomberg, Werner von Fritsch, Erich Raeder, and Hermann Göring, each with a signature facsimile. The subsequent pages bear 126 photographs, mostly with captions, featuring Heer (Army) soldiers training, marching, and performing a variety of duties. Landscape shots of Bavarian and Austrian Alps and towns are also prevalent. Some photographs have come loose from their original placement. The cover of the album bears a raised silver Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Underneath is a silver embossed inscription of “4. Battr.-Art.-Rgt. 31”. The album measures 267 mm (w) x 90 mm (h). Age-appropriate material fatigue is evident, but the album is in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
