Germany, Heer. A Pre-Second World War Private Photo Album, Artillerie-Regiment 60
(Heer Fotoalbum). This is an extremely well-preserved pre-Second World War private photo album belonging to a member of Beobachter-Abteilung 2 (2nd Observer Company), Artillerie-Regiment 60 (60th Artillery Regiment). It is constructed of a card stock binding with a field-grey canvas exterior liner. The front cover bears a raised, silverered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a silvered unit dedication, with years “1935/36”. The spin features four magnetic metal eyelets through which is looped a multi-coloured drawstring, securely holding the album together. The interior content begins with a title page bearing an inscription of “ERINNERUNG AN MEINE WEHRDIENSTZEIT” (“MEMENTO OF MY ARMED SERVICE TIME”), followed by five paper stock pages bearing black-and-white photographs of AH, Werner von Blomberg, Werner von Fritsch, Erich Raeder, and Hermann Göring. The album itself consists of 20 black paper stock pages, each separated by a wax paper divider. It features 95 black-and-white photographs, depicting the owner as a medic in the Sturmabteilung (SA), followed by his service with a Heer artillery unit, with photographs of personnel in uniforms on maneuvers and at leisure. The album also includes a number of family photographs and scenic shots of German landscapes. Some photographs feature handwritten inscriptions on the reverse, while others have unspoiled postcard arrangements. The album is maker marked on the back of the cover “HESSE & BECKER, LEIPZIG”, and measures 265 mm (w) x 190 mm (h). Four photographs are missing, but the album is otherwise intact and is in an extremely fine condition.
