Germany, Heer. A Prewar Photo Album, Infanterie-Regiment Augsburg, Rgt. Nachr. Zu
(Heer Fotoalbum). This is an exceptionally well-preserved prewar photo album belonging to Anton Reich, Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiment 91. The album has 24 black cardboard pages bearing 150 black-and-white photographs spanning a period from 1929 until 1938. The album depicts Reichsheer (and later Wehrmacht) personnel on parade, training in weapons handling and mountain climbing, attending funerals, and engaging in leisure time. The interior of the cover bears a studio portrait of the owner. Each page is separated by a wax paper sheet with a spider web design, complete with depictions of spiders and flies. The pages are bound by a multi-coloured twisted string looped through four eyelets set into the binding. The cover is constructed of a cardboard-reinforced faux blue leather, the obverse with a dark-grey embossed Stahlhelm (Steel Helmet), with a red, white, and black German tri-colour above an inscription of “Infanterie-Regiment Augsburg, Rgt. Nachr. Zu”. The interior of the cover is marked “Photo-Pippig, Grimma/Sa.”, with a D.R.G.M. design registration mark. The album measures 320 mm (w) x 230 mm (h). In extremely fine condition.
