A War Merit Cross Award Document to Division Großdeutschland

A certificate, measuring 143x205mm, extremely fine condition with folding crease. It states that Obergefreiter (Senior Lance Corporal) Erich Musilek of the 4th Battery of Artillery Regiment Großdeutschland is awarded the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords on November 26, 1942. The document is signed in black ink by Major General and Commander of Infantry Division Großdeutschland, Walter Hörnlein (1893–1961).

 

Footnote: Walter Hörnlein was a veteran of the First War, during which he was severely wounded. He received the Knight’s Cross on July 30, 1941 as Colonel and Commander of Infantry Regiment 80. The Oak Leaves followed on March 15, 1943 as Lieutenant General and Commander of Infantry Division Großdeutschland. At the end of the war, he held the rank of General der Infanterie.
