An Award Document for an Iron Cross 1939 Second Class to NCO Hermann Scherer

This is an award document for an Iron Cross 1939 Second Class. It was awarded to Unteroffizier (Sergeant equivalent) Hermann Scherer a the Stabsquatier (Staff Headquarters) on October 8th, 1944. It features the signature of the Generalmajor (der Flieger) and Kommandeur (of Luftflotte Group 6) Heinz Funcke. It also features the seal of the Kommando der Luftflotte 6 on the bottom left corner. The document measures 200 mm x 142 mm; folded in half; no rips or wrinkles; near mint condition. (C:152)

Footnote: Heinz Funcke (born 21.12.1892) in Hagen (Westphalia), and joined the German Army on March 13, 1913 within the 13th Infantry Regiment. He transferred to the 256th Flying Battalion, where he received training as an Aircraft Observer, serving on the Russian front in 1917. Following the war, he was part of the secret flying regiment in Russia, later transferring to the Luftwaffe as a Major in March, 1935, where he served as an instructor. With the outbreak of the war, he served as a Generalmajor der Flieger and Kommandeur of Luftflotte Group 6. He died on June 16, 1969 in Münster, Germany.
