What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Buyer's Premium

All bids are subject to a Buyer's Premium which is in addition to the placed successful bid. The following rate of Buyer's Premium will be added to the Hammer Price of each Lot that you purchase:

An Clasp to the Iron Cross 1st Class Award Document Signed by Wilhelm Stemmermann

An award certificate for the Clasp to the Iron Cross 1st Class, measuring 140x199mm, extremely fine condition with folding crease in the middle. The recipient is Oberst (Colonel) Karl Stingl, Commander of the Infantry Regiment 520 (the letter “J” in abbreviations was often used instead of the letter “I”). The document is dated July 24, 1941. It is signed in black ink by Major General and Division Commander of the 296th Infantry Division Wilhelm Stemmermann.

Footnote: Karl Stingl (1894–1976) first joined the Bavarian army in 1913. During the First World War he served in the 10th Bavarian Infantry Regiment where he was promoted to Lieutenant. After the war he joined the police before re-entering the army. The highest rank he reached was Major General in 1944. He commanded several Infantry Regiments, and towards the end of the war the 16th Panzergrenadier Division. At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Russians, and returned home in 1950. Wilhelm Stemmermann (1888–1944 KIA), holding the rank of General at the time of death, was posthumously awarded the Oak Leaves to the Knight’s Cross for his leadership role during the escape from the Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket, which he did not survive.
