Certificate of awarding of Iron Cross 2nd Class to Walter Burgdorf, measures 14.1 x 20.1 cm. Date of item: 1941. Condition: excellent, with a few spots of aging. A certificate of awarding of the Iron Cross 2nd Class to Unteroffizier (Corporal) Walter Burgdorf of the Regiment General Göring, 8th company. The award was made “in the name of the Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht”. Corporal Burgdorf got the award on June 28th, 1941, at “Gefechtsstand” (combat headquarters). Since the attack on the Soviet Union began on June 22nd of the same year and his regiment was made part of the 11th Panzer Division (part of the Heeresgruppe Süd = Army Group South) that took part in this campaign, Corporal Burgdorf most likely was honoured in Ukraine or southern Russia. The medal is awarded by the Commanding General of the II. Flak Corps, Lieutenant-General Deßloch.
