A Mint Signed Picture Postcard of Luftwaffe Fighter Ace and Knight’s Cross Recipient Hermann Graf
A mint picture postcard signed by the Luftwaffe Fighter Ace and Knight’s Cross recipient Hermann Graf of the Fighter Wing 52. He was the first pilot to reach 200 victories, for which he was awarded the Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords, and Diamonds - it was the first award of its kind and the highest award at the time. The obverse of the picture postcard states “Major Graf - Recipient of the Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords, and Diamonds”, with his signature in dark blue ink. Clearly visible in the photograph is his Knight’s Cross with Oakleaves, Swords, and Diamonds, a German Cross in Gold, a Romanian Pilot’s Badge, a Front Flying Clasp of the Luftwaffe for Fighter Pilots in Gold, as well as his Combined Pilots-Observer’s Badge in Gold and Diamonds. The reverse is labelled “Major Graf” in neat handwriting. It measures 142 mm x 99 mm, in mint condition.
