A drawing of Major Helmut Wick, a Second World War fighter ace. It measures 148x210mm, near mint condition with a few folds at the top. The drawing was made by Wolfgang Willrich. It is dated to April 25, 1941, and was commissioned by the Volksdeutsches Kameradschaftsopfer der deutschen Jugend (German People’s Comradery Sacrifice of the German Youth) and the Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland (National Association for German Culture Abroad).
Footnote: Helmut Paul Emil Wick (1915–1940) was a fighter ace who flew combat missions in France and Britain. He was promoted to Major and Geschwaderkommodore in October 1940, at the time the youngest to ever hold that position. He was also the leading fighter ace with 56 confirmed aerial victories. Wick received the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross in August 1940, earning the Oak Leaves in October 1940. He was only the 4th recipient of this award, the highest award for bravery at the time.
