A picture postcard, measuring 83x130mm, near mint condition. The photo has been tinted. It shows a soldier in a Mountain troop unit, possibly a Feldwebel (Sergeant) or Oberfeldwebel (Senior Sergeant). The reverse identifies him as Johann Schmied. He wears a German Cross in Gold, an Iron Cross 1st Class, a Close Combat Clasp in Silver, a Wound Badge in Silver, an Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon, and a General Assault Badge. On the side of the cap the Edelweiss insignia for Mountain troops is just visible.
