A photo, measuring 68x97mm, near mint condition. It shows a Lieutenant General, wearing a Knight’s Cross and an Honour Roll Clasp. His uniform also shows the Clasp to the Iron Cross 1st Class, and the ribbon bar consists of the Iron Cross 1914 2nd Class with Clasp and the Order of Hohenzollern with Crown.
Footnote: The Honour Roll Clasp of the Army (Ehrenblatt des Heeres) was awarded following the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Until January 30th, 1944, the Honour Roll Clasp existed only on paper. It was awarded to previous recipients of the Iron Cross 1939 First and Second class, who “once again” distinguished themselves in combat. It was awarded a total of only 4,556 times during the war, without specific qualifications to earn this award. However, it was bestowed at the discretion of the German High Command – sparingly, to retain a high level of prestige.
