Black and white, gloss finish, obverse with a U.S. Army Signal Corps insignia at the lower left, coded "231479" at the lower right, reverse stamped with an inscription in faded blue ink "SC 231479 GERMAN SURRENDER IN RUHR POCKET. A German officer follows his surrender to the 7th Armored Division, U.S. First Army, by shaking hands with a German nurse as he prepares to leave for prisoners of war cage at Ergste. These soldiers are some of the 15,000 to 25,000 who surrendered. Germany. 4/16/45", stamped in black ink "SIGNAL CORPS PHOTO / PLEASE CREDIT / RELEASED BY AUTHORITY OF THE BUREAU OF PUBLIC RELATIONS OR BY THEATRE PRESS CENSOR" and "SCHOOL OF PERSONNEL" with "P-1003" in handwritten black ink and inscribed "Stauffer" in pencil, 206 mm x 252 mm, light crazing in the emulsion, near extremely fine.
