Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Lot of Private Wartime Photos from a Crew Member of Battleship Scharnhorst
(Kriegsmarine Fotos). A fascinating lot of 30 private wartime photos from the estate of a Kriegsmarine sailor who performed part of his service on the battleship Scharnhorst, including postcard size studio portraits of the owner in a classic Kriegsmarine dark blue uniform (one with the Minesweeper War Badge edited into the image during development), with additional images of personnel on deck during extreme winter conditions as the Scharnhorst patrolled the Baltic and North Sea during a number of operations during the Second World War, one image notably showing a water disturbance consistent with detonation of depth charges during a possible anti-submarine action, also including a large photo of a Kriegsmarine sailing ship used for training purposes and an E-Boat at sea, many supplemented by handwritten reverse captions, a superb and personalized account of wartime Kriegsmarine service in extremely fine condition.
