A wartime signed photo of SS-Brigadeführer and Generalmajor der Polizei Alfred Wünnenberg, with an image and caption cut from a newspaper and pasted to a paper stock backer, the former bearing Wünnenberg’s handwritten signature in blue ink, above a date of “16. 12. 1942”, measuring 106 mm (w) x 148 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Alfred Wünnenberg commanded the SS Polizei Division (4th SS Polizei Panzergrenadier Division) between December 1941 and June 1943. On 10 June 1943, he was placed in command of IV SS Panzer Corps, seeing combat on the Eastern Front until 23 October, when he was appointed chief of the Ordnungspolizei, a position he held until the end of the war. Wünnenberg was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross (15 November 1941) with Oak Leaves (23 April 1942).
