Two Wartime Drawings of Wehrmacht Officers; Knight's Cross Recipients
Both Measuring 22.8 x 32.8 cm; Date of items: Period of Nazi Germany. The first picture shows the drawing of a middle-aged Wehrmacht officer wearing a Knight’s Cross, possibly a general. The facsimile is indecipherable. The second picture is signed “Crüwell, Generalleutnant”. It also states that he was the commanding general of the German “Afrika Korps” starting on Sep 1st, 1941. General der Panzertruppe Ludwig Crüwell (1892–1958) served in both WWI and WWII and was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. He was awarded this honour for his service during the invasion of Yugoslavia, and then receiving the Oak Leaves for narrowly saving his division from being destroyed by 12 enemy division near Beritchev, Russia in early 1941. At the time this was the highest German military decoration. This act also got him promoted to Lieutenant General.
