The Wehrpaß was issued in Berlin to Hellmuth Graf on 16 November 1943. The Wehrpaß, an example of the Third Type, has a green-grey thin cardboard binding with a cover displaying a national eagle, and Latin letters spelling “Wehrpaß.” Both the box in the upper-right corner and bottom-centre remain blank.The Wehrpaß contains 56 pages with personal data, examination and recruitment information, in addition to reports of active military service. A portrait of Graf in plain clothes is riveted to the second page and stamped with two diagonally opposite stamps. Information pertaining to Graf’s physical examination are on page 5, to his military service on page 12, and his decorations on page 24. The inside rear cover is marked "D.R.G.M. (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) 1 367 174" and maker marked "Metten & Co., Berlin SW 61, Neudruck 1942" on the back cover, measuring 106 mm (w) 146 mm (h), minor discolouration and creasing, and in near extremely fine condition. In the front pocket is a Wehrpaß-Notiz, dated 3 December 1943, measuring 210 mm (w) x 148.5 mm (h), the left side ripped, and in fair condition.
Footnote: Hellmuth Graf was born on 2 November 1892 in Rheine, Westphalia. From 3 December 1916 to 25 March 1919, Graf served in the Balkan Theatre of World War I. On 30 December 1918, he received the Iron Cross Second Class and the Medal of Merit of the Red Crescent, Silver. At the time his Wehrpaß was issued, he was married with two children, working as an engineer. The military conducted his physical examination on 16 November 1943 and deemed him “kriegsverwendungsfähig” (“fit for war”) and assigned him to the Landsturm I.
