The Wehrpass of Emil Schmitz; Iron Cross Recipient - Army Documents: 52 pages, in fine condition; Medical Record and Related Documents, 28 pages, in fine condition   Foonote: Schmitz was born in Idar, Birkenfeld in the Rhineland Palatinate. He was a protestant, German citizen, was married, and worked as a shopkeeper. He was brought in for military inspection on November 6th, 1936 at the military command office at Nuremburg 1. He was ruled conditionally fit and placed with his local militia along with other First War veterans. His second inspection was on the 7th of August, 1943, and was placed with the second tier militia. This could corroborate with his medical records which indicate failing health.   In the first war he had served with the 8th Reserve Battalion F.A.R since August 1914. In September 1939 he served with the Bad Mergentheim 170th Reserve Infantry Battalion until 1941, which an intermission spent working at the army supply depot in Amberg. On October 1st, 1939 he was promoted to the rank of Unteroffizier. Doctors’ reports from late 1944 indicate that his health kept him from being fit for service. On April 23rd, 1918 he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class. In 1935 he received the Hindenburg Cross for First War veterans.
