Germany, Imperial. A Franco-Prussian War Silver Table Medal, by Emil Weigand
(Deutsch-Franzözischer Krieg Erinnerungsmedaille). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a raised and finely-detailed depiction of a seated Germania flanked by angelic figures, one of which is clutching oak leaves and the other placing a crown on the former’s head, above a raised 1870 Iron Cross flanked by dates “1870-1871”, the reverse bearing a central raised and rightward-facing profile of Kaiser Wilhelm I, circumscribed by the names of German commanding Generals, the reverse bearing an engraver mark of “E. WEIGAND” for the firm of Emil Weigand, Berlin, the obverse bearing two additional illegible marks, measuring 85 mm in diameter, weighing 318 grams, in extremely fine condition.
