Germany, Imperial. A Hamburg Hanseatic Cross, on Parade Mount
(Hanseatenkreuz Hamburg). Constructed of silvered copper with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon affixed to a parade mount with a magnetic metal core and white cotton twill reverse liner and horizontal pinback, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with red enameled arms and a central red enameled disc overlaid by a silvered Hamburg coat of arms, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE 1914” (“FOR MERIT IN WAR 1914”), unmarked, measuring 40.25 mm (w) x 44.00 mm (h), with some flecking of enamels and wear to the ribbon and mount evident, in better than very fine condition.
