Germany, Third Reich. A 1914/1918 Honour Cross to German Veteran in Canada
(Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918 mit Verleihungsurkunde). A rare Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 issued to a German veteran residing in Canada, the decoration constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords through the centrepiece, the obverse bearing central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse bearing an unidentified maker’s mark, measuring 37.72 mm (w) x 41.66 mm (h), weighing 14.2 grams, in extremely fine condition; accompanied by its award document, named to Hausmeister Ludwig Kilger of Ottawa, Ontario, issued in Montreal on 14 August 1935, featuring the handwritten signature of the German General Consul for Canada and Newfoundland, measuring 210 mm (w) x 148 mm (h), in extremely fine condition; also accompanied by an envelope addressed to Kilger at his Ottawa residence, featuring the letterhead of Versorgungsamt Berlin (Pension Office), measuring 175 mm (w) x 125 mm (h), with age-appropriate material fatigue evident, in overall very fine condition.
